ZHANG Xinyi

ZHANG Xinyi (born in Shanghai) is a director, cinematographer and editor. Full passion about filmmaking. Her films are characterized by vivid cinematography, atmospheric music.


She currently working as a filmmaker in Canada. In addition to her independent filmmaking practice, she has collaborated with other filmmakers and artists in performances, installations, and productions, serving as an editor and cinematographer.


She was profoundly influenced by European art film and Soviet cinema, particularly after experiencing the films of Andrei Tarkovsky ((Russian film director and screenwriter). His films completely revolutionized her understanding of cinema. Subsequently, she moved to Paris, spent three years mastering fashion design. After returning to Shanghai, she walks into advertising industry, gained four years of experience in the TV Commercial as an Art Director, served as set design and editor. Her works have been exhibited at the Shanghai Auto Shows in 2021 and 2022. Later, she moved to Canada to pursue film, where she completed several film projects. 


Her short documentary “A Visualized Death” and Music Video “Mon Ami” has been selected  for Toronto Independent Film Festival  2024.
