Hollywood Comes North: “Crosswind” Wraps Filming in Downtown London

Lights, camera, London! The heart of downtown London, Ontario recently transformed into a bustling film set as production wrapped on Crosswind, a high-stakes political thriller set in 1970s Washington, D.C. For two weeks, Dundas Place and nearby heritage buildings played the part of Capitol Hill — complete with vintage cars, retro signage, and plenty of trench coats.

Directed by Canadian filmmaker Ava Morgan, Crosswind stars rising talent Elijah Brandt and award-winning actress Sophia Lin. The film’s producers praised London’s unique blend of architectural styles and walkable, adaptable streetscapes. “You don’t have to build a backlot here,” Morgan said. “London already has the texture and character we were looking for — and the support from the local film office was unbeatable.”

The shoot brought over 100 cast and crew to the city, many of whom tapped into local talent and businesses. Film London, powered by the London Economic Development Corporation, coordinated location scouting, permits, and referrals for local studios and vendors — making the shoot not only possible but seamless.

Even better? The city itself is expected to co-star. Crosswind will showcase local landmarks like the Grand Theatre, Eldon House, and the leafy paths of Victoria Park.

The buzz around the production has already sparked interest from other filmmakers eyeing London as a filming destination that’s both logistically smooth and creatively rich. As the credits roll on Crosswind, London’s star is clearly on the rise.
