London Rolls Camera on Romantic Comedy “Second Take”

The streets of Wortley Village were filled with laughter, lattes, and a few strategically placed boom mics last week as filming began on Second Take, a charming romantic comedy set — fittingly — in a small Canadian city that’s full of heart.

Starring real-life couple (and fan favourites) Maya Ruiz and Connor Dale, the film tells the story of a screenwriter who returns to their hometown to escape a Hollywood flop — and ends up finding inspiration, love, and maybe even a second chance. Locals were thrilled to spot the stars grabbing coffee between takes at Black Walnut Café and shooting key scenes on the iconic green footbridge.

The production team, working closely with Film London and the London Economic Development Corporation, praised the city’s cooperation and flexibility. “London gave us everything we needed — character-filled neighbourhoods, beautiful fall backdrops, and a community that welcomed us with open arms,” said producer Lena Choi.

The crew hired local talent for both cast and crew positions, while area businesses got a boost from the production buzz. One resident even got a surprise cameo — and a latte paid for by the lead actor.

With its mix of small-town charm and cinematic versatility, London continues to prove it’s more than just a stand-in — it’s ready for its close-up.

Second Take is expected to hit Canadian theatres next summer.
