Sci-Fi Meets the Forest City: “Echo Rift” Films in London

This month, London, Ontario stepped into the future as crews wrapped production on Echo Rift, a sci-fi adventure set in a parallel version of Earth where time fractures create alternate realities.

Over the course of three weeks, filmmakers transformed parts of Western University, Springbank Park, and the downtown core into sleek futuristic labs, lush dystopian zones, and fragmented timelines — all without leaving the city. The production drew attention from curious passersby who caught glimpses of drone camera rigs, practical effects, and actors in striking metallic costumes.

Director Juno Reeves said London was chosen for its mix of modern and natural backdrops. “The variety here is unreal. We were able to shoot a university scene, a forest battle, and a high-tech control room all within 20 minutes of each other. Plus, the local support was phenomenal.”

Film London, powered by the London Economic Development Corporation, helped coordinate everything from location permits to crew referrals, making the production smooth from start to finish.

The shoot brought over 80 crew members to the city and hired dozens of local extras and technicians. Businesses near the set locations also saw a bump in foot traffic, with cast and crew enjoying coffee, catering, and downtime in local shops.

Echo Rift is set to premiere on a major streaming platform next spring — and for those in the know, London’s starring role will be unmistakable.
